Simplicity In Design

There is a point in time for every designer that they realize, a great design is not about just designing skill, it's about finding an analogy to represent the idea and using the skill to represent it.

Simplicity in design

You see someone represented an idea by just drawing two lines. Or some visual with many graphic elements that each carry their own meaning but there is a whole, one meaning when you look at it. Impossible to not to admire them, especially if you are a designer.

Some junior designer may try to create those kind of simple visuals but they fail. They try many times and they fail many times. There is a point in time for every designer that they realize, a great design is not about just designing skill, it's about finding an analogy to represent the idea and using the skill to represent it. Simplicity is in the ideation and ideation depends on the comprehension of the topic.

We mostly add things to a design to make it "good". But those things just complicate the design and the message of the visual disappears as we add those things. Because they are there to not to support the idea, to make the visual just "good". Finding the best way to represent the idea is difficult but using designing skill is easy. We mostly fallback to our designing skill when we can't find a good analogy. However, message can only be delivered by using the designing skill on the analogy you found.

Being simple, requires to remove part of yourself. It requires to listen others and what's going on in the world. As you become simple, you realize that there is a unified language between you and the others. This unified language is what makes you great and designing skill is just a tool that you can use while you design. Being uncomplicated, having clear vision of what you are doing or becoming aware of every pixel you put. You start to see others come to you to represent their mission, ideas or products.

After all of this a designer become the one that other designers admire. A sparkle for other designers that will spend countless nights to achieve simplicity just as you spent countless nights to achieve it.
